In order to evaluate the UMTS availability, which is necessary for the GAWAIN tests and demonstrations, dedicated measurements have been conducted by IfEN GmbH. The UMTS reception level values have been logged together with the GPS position during several test runs. As it can be seen from the map below the results are very satisfying. There were only very few parts in the area where the establishment of a UMTS based data link was not possible due to insufficient signal coverage. This was the case mainly in the outskirts of the GATE test area.
